NestEgg Labs, working in tandem with AppsForce and other key associates, seeks to bring affordable, customizable automation into the research labs.
In the lab, it takes weeks to culture cells and technicians need to be constantly adjusting nutrients and environmental conditions. This process can often fail or become contaminated, which can be expensive. The Ovation Cell System makes things easier by automating and monitoring the growth of the cells from start to finish.
Essential features include environmental regulation, microscopic observation (for tracking cells), as well as pumps and valves for circulating nourishment and eliminating waste.
The system was created using AppsForce Cloud technology. At first, it needed to be operated with a computer connected to the laboratory but now cloud technology enables scientists to monitor progress remotely, receive notifications, and make adjustments to the system if desired.
Consortium won a grant from the LIOF which allowed them to create a Minimum Viable Product, building a brand new cloud-based backend for this, along with communication protocols to control various devices in laboratories such as syringes, pumps, valves, environment and other related hardware.
Every laboratory can either employ a preexisting procedure or devise a unique approach to their experiment, allowing them to automate the entire process. This ensures that lab technicians no longer have to spend weeks performing the experiment manually and drastically decreases the chances of failure.
Nest Egg administrators, personnel, multiple laboratory associations, corresponding client managers, and lab technicians will all be taking advantage of the AppsForce platform.
To communicate with hardware controllers, we’ve developed protocols that allow those controllers to transmit information such as temperature, relative humidity, and microscope images. Plus, the protocols enable the cloud to provide instructions on what action to take.
For a long-term experiment, we used a recipe solution that allowed lab technicians to visually construct each step of the process. The recipes are saved and shared with colleagues, so users can choose one to use or modify it to create their own versions.
This cloud system is designed to meet the needs of many businesses, with multiple laboratories working on different projects simultaneously.
The report indicates all the details regarding current and previous experiments, like their condition, activities, and alarms.
For the next step, we’re going to use artificial intelligence to analyze the microscope images and modify the system accordingly in order to get the best possible results.
